Barnard Castle Team

Chris Butler

Director

Chris is a fellow member of the AAT having started his Accountancy career back in 1993. He set up the practice with Darren Gee back in 1996, originally operating it from home before the move into formal offices here in Barnard Castle in 2002. Chris is responsible for all the accounting and tax output from the office and works closely with clients to ensure they receive the best possible professional service for a sensible fee. Away from the office Chris enjoys sports cars, motor racing and holidays to Italy eating lots of ice cream with his wife and two young children

Darren Gee

Director

Darren attained his Degree in Accountancy at Newcastle back in 1994 and joined Chris in forming the business two years later in 1996. Darren provides the technical background for both our offices and ensures that all the staff are up to date with relevant accounting policies and tax legislation. In addition to specialising in working on more advanced tax planning issues and generally being the office tax encyclopaedia, Darren also implements and maintains our practice and client management tools. Out of the office Darren is a top class cyclist and doesn't think twice about nipping out on a Sunday afternoon to ride 100 miles or so. He recently cycled from Lands End to John O'Groats in 9 days while his wife and two children cheered him on from the comfort of the motorhome.

Katherine Hutchinson

Katherine holds the mantle of being our longest serving employee starting as a trainee way back in 2003. She has been an AAT member since 2006 having passed her AAT exams in successive years and now works on all matters accounts and tax. Along with her husband and two children, Katherine lives on and runs a farm high up in the wilds of the North Pennines on the Durham/Cumbria border.

Gemma Spry

Gemma has been with us since 2005 and passed her AAT exams in the following couple of years. Gemma is proficient in all things accounts and tax and looks after a range of clients for us. Having recently acquired a small farm with her husband and daughter, Gemma now has the perfect place to ride her horse and take the dogs for a walk.

Rachel Gill

Rachel is our most recent recruit having joined us in 2011 from the accounts team at Proctor and Gamble. She completed her AAT exams shortly after joining us and now works on accounts and tax matters. Rachel also takes her work home with her helping to look after the accounts for the family haulage and plant hire business.

Michelle Ramage

Michelle joined the firm back in 2007 and attained her AAT exams soon after. As well as preparing accounts and working on tax returns, Michelle is also the office Payroll specialist ensuring that all our clients are compliant with wages and employee matters. Along with her husband and stepson, Michelle is a lifelong football fan which invariably means she is not smiling much on a Monday morning!

Lisa Bell

Lisa keeps the office running smoothly in her role as Secretary and Office Manager. Invariably Lisa will be the first voice you hear when you call our office or will be the first person you meet in our reception when you come in. Lisa joined us way back in 2007 and it was during the following year that she received the unusual instruction from Chris and Darren to plan and organise our first Charity Ball. She did a terrific job and ensured all the guests had such a good time that the event has now become an annual one selling out each year and raising a lot of money for charity.

Ian Taylor

Ian has been with us since 2009 having joined as a Trainee Accountant after gaining a degree in Business and Music. Ian then successfully studied for and passed his AAT exams and now works with clients preparing accounts and tax returns. In recent months Ian has become a link between our two offices and is now a regular at Shotley Bridge. Girlfriend and baby daughter aside, music continues to be Ian’s first love and away from the office he operates his own small record label.

Ashleigh Hewitt

Ashleigh has joined the team as our Secretary and Office Manager while Lisa is on maternity leave until mid 2015. It is of course quite daunting to parachute in and try and ensure continuity and the smooth running of a busy office but Ashleigh has made light work of the situation and has fit in perfectly. With a degree in Business Studies and Marketing she is proving to be a real asset to the office.
