Businesses and Community Join together for 2nd Annual Victorian Xmas Event in Shotley Bridge

Despite the cold and snowy weather, the Victorian Christmas Spectacular in Shotley Bridge, held on 27th of November, proved to be a huge success.  Residents turned out in their hundreds to see what local businesses and community groups had to offer for the 2010 Christmas season.  Most of the singers and entertainers managed to arrive through the fresh deep snow on time, although some of the performances did need to be held indoors, in the village Methodist Church, due to the very low temperatures outside.

The stunning horses and Victorian carriage rides were, as ever, popular, as was Santa Claus who was accompanied this year by Mrs Claus. They met many children and parents throughout the day and also magically lit the Christmas tree in the village square late afternoon!  The three churches and the village hall also had successful functions. The police and St. Johns Ambulance were around all day and were a great help to the event.  In fact, everyone who was there, working, performing or visiting made the Shotley Bridge 2010 Victorian Christmas event a truly memorable one!

People were also very generous! A fantastic £1,380 was raised for the hospice at Willow Burn and £460 for the 'Blooming Shotley Bridge' initiative!

A short video of the event, including a soundtrack of the local school children singing Christmas songs and carols, is available on the village's Facebook site [Shotley Bridge 'The Village'].

Many fab photos can also be seen on the Village Trust's website [www.sbvt.wordpress.com] which also shows the cheque presentation to a trustee of Willow Burn from the Shotley Bridge Business and Community Partnership.

The Partnership has already decided to hold a similar event for 2011 during the last weekend of November.
